World's Oldest Couple With No Children Set To Celebrate Their 80th Wedding Anniversary (Photo)

John Henderson and Charlotte Curtis aged 106 and 105 respectively who are officially recognized by the Guiness Book of World Records as the world’s oldest couple and will on December 22, 2019, celebrate their 80th wedding anniversary, and 85 years after sitting in a zoology class in 1934.

 

John and Charlotte married in a tiny ceremony with only two guests present on Dec. 22, 1939 and during their honeymoon in San Antonio, they stayed at a hotel that cost $7 a night.

 

Even though they known each other for 85 years, they have been married only for 80, meaning the record for the longest marriage according to Guinness World Records, belongs to Zelmyra and Herbert Fisher, who wed at the ages of 17 and 19, respectively, and were married for 86 years and 290 days before Herbert’s death in 2011.

 

Speaking to Washington post on Sunday, John Henderson said;

 

“it took her five years to make up her mind that she wanted to get married,”

 

 

Speaking about the first time he got a radio, John said;

 

“And I well-remember that long antenna. They had to put it up from the front yard to the backyard to receive a radio show,” he said.

 

He recalls renting a room while in the University of Texas in the early 1930s across the street from the Gregory Gym, one of the few historical buildings remaining on the campus.

 

“The neighbours next door had a cow and chickens. You can imagine today a cow and chicken house across the street from Gregory, where the campus is so large now you wouldn’t recognize hardly anything,”John said.

 

“I thought he was just a fine fella, and I didn’t mind his looking over my shoulder,”Charlotte told The Washington Post, remembering the first time she saw John in a Zoology class in front of John while he made passes at her.

 

The pair have been lauded by many for their long, milestone-filled life together.

 

However, John has admitted that other people have a different theory for why they're so happy together.

“Some people say that’s the reason we’ve had such a long married life, ’cause we didn’t have any kids to worry about,” John said, noting that the pair never had children.

Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum, who co-promotes Kubrat Pulev, is confident that his boxer will end the current run of IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.

Joshua reclaimed his titles earlier this month with a twelve round unanimous decision win over Andy Ruiz in Saudi Arabia.

The IBF has ordered Joshua to make a mandatory defense against Pulev. The fight between Joshua and Pulev will likely take place in the first half of the year.

And when it does come down, Arum expects Pulev will come away with the big win.

“Let me let you in on a secret, you may agree or disagree. But by that time [end of 2020], there ain’t going to be an Anthony Joshua as a top fighter," Arum told Talk Sport.

“I’ve got a Bulgarian named Pulev who’s going to knock him on his ass in his next fight. I think everyone is in agreement that Pulev will be next.”

At the same time, Joshua has been ordered by the WBO to make a mandatory defense against Oleksandr Usyk.

Eddie Hearn, who promotes Joshua and Usyk, believes Pulev will likely be the next opponent.

“We want the governing bodies to tell us who goes first, is it Pulev or Usyk? For me, it is probably Pulev, because that mandatory was called first. Off the top of my head, it will be end of April or early May for Joshua’s next fight," Hearn said.

The big fight in the heavyweight division is the rematch between WBC champion Deontay Wilder and challenger Tyson Fury.

Arum has no problem with matching Fury - should he win - against the Joshua-Pulev winner.

“As far as I’m concerned, why not? Tyson Fury is better than any other heavyweight in the world. The Joshua fight would be a big fight, after Wilder, but I haven’t spoken to Tyson about it. For me, I’d say bring it on,”Arum said. 

Car Explodes In Powerful Blast After Driver Lit Cigarette While Driving   

A car rider used an air freshener can without ventilating his car before lighting his cigarette causing an explosion.

A motorist was lucky to escape with just minor injuries when his car exploded as he lit a cigarette.

The blast was so powerful that his car was left misshapen and windows of nearby buildings in Halifax town centre were broken.

Police said the explosion happened when the driver used an aerosol can air freshener moments before lighting the cigarette on Saturday afternoon.

The force said on Facebook: ‘Shortly after 3pm this afternoon Fountain Street, Halifax, had to be closed due to an exploded aerosol can.’

The statement said that the car was stationary in traffic when the owner used an air freshener can but did not ventilate his car before lighting his cigarette.

‘The fumes exploded and blew out his windscreen, along with some windows at nearby business premises.

‘The owner, fortunately, sustained only minor injuries but this could have been worse.’

The force said: ‘Please can members of the public be careful and follow guidelines when using air freshener cans?’
One reply to the force’s post said: ‘It was an almighty boom. An aerosol We watched his windscreen and window glass fall from the sky.

’ Pictures of the black Seat car posted on social media showed it suffered significant damage to its doors, boot and windows.

A former chairman, Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory, Dino Melaye, has said he was born an actor and a politician.

Melaye made the claim in an interview with journalists in Abuja during the premiere of a movie titled, ‘Lemonade, written by Joy Idoko and produced by 100% Joy Media Productions, where he featured prominently.

He also explained that he participated in acting “to send a message to Nigerians”, ameliorate problems and “get Nigeria out of the cocoon.”

While calling on the government to create laws that would promote entertainment in Nigeria, Melaye said he participated in the movie “to send a message to Nigerians, to ameliorate our problems and to get Nigeria out of the cocoon will be a very strong way to correct the ills in the society.”

He said, “I am born both as an actor and a politician. The entertainment industry is a very strong sector of our national life that should be encouraged. It is richer than oil because oil is exhaustible but these ideas rule the world as I speak to you. I believe that entertainment industry is one of the strongest weapons that we can be used to ameliorate our problems in this country.”

Idoko said, “Lemonade is a movie I shot; it is very dear to my heart because the story about Lemonade is the story that a lot of people are going through. People talk about domestic abuse, domestic violence and all that but people don’t talk about emotional and mental abuse.

“The setting was Abuja and I decided to cast with Senator Dino Melaye because we wanted to cast a real life Senator, we needed to cast a politician and I didn’t want to cast an actor as a politician.” 

My Sickness Is Spiritual - Veteran Actor, Pa Kasumu Cries Out

In 2017, it had been reported that Pa Kasumu's health worsened after he got back from a medical trip to India.

Ailing veteran actor, Kayode Odumosu, better known as Pa Kasumu, has said that his sickness is of a spiritual nature and not medical as many have presumed.

The popular Yoruba actor whose health status became worrisome after a video showed his frail state, told Saturday Beats that all he needs are fervent prayers and not financial aid from well-wishers and well-meaning Nigerians.

Pa Kasumu said, “For now, I don’t need any help. All I need is prayer. All I can say about my sickness is that it is spiritual. That’s why I said it requires prayer. I’m currently at a church camp for its annual congress. God should take care of me. I will stay at the camp till the congress ends.”

The actor, who has been absent from the movie scene since he fell ill 10 years ago, revealed that it was the first time he would seek spiritual help. He also dismissed reports that he is now totally blind. He said, “RCCG is the first place I’ve gone for prayers. But, they have also been praying for me in my church in Sabo, Yaba, Lagos. I came from Abeokuta to the camp today (Wednesday).

“The doctors are just saying their own. They said I had a partial stroke. It affected my left side and to some extent, my sight.

“My wife and children have been taking care of me. The sickness started a long time ago. But I had the partial stroke nine years ago.”

Reacting to reports that his smoking habits contributed to his sickness, Kasumu said people were just ‘talking rubbish’.

A son of the actor, Bode Odumosu, also spoke on his father’ health status. He reiterated that his father needs prayers, not financial aid.

“I am his second son and we (his children) have been taking care of him. We didn’t reach out to anyone. People only became alarmed about Pa Kasumu’s condition after a video of him at Foluke Daramola’s event went viral,” he said.

In 2017, it had been reported that Pa Kasumu’s health worsened after he got back from a medical trip to India.

Although he was required to return to India two months after the initial trip, the sudden loss of his passport had prevented him from doing so.

Jaywon has announced the demise of his father on social media and his celebrity friends have been consoling him.

Nigerian singer, Iledare Oluwajuwonlo, better known by his stage name Jaywon, has lost his father.

The singer announced his father’s death on Saturday on his Instagram page with a picture of his father.

Jaywon, however, did not disclose the cause of his death.
