Use Of NIN Helped In Reducing Examination Malpractices – JAMB

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has said that the use of National Identity Number (NIN) as directed by the federal government helped to reduce examination malpractice during the examinations.
The JAMB Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, disclosed this on Wednesday during a news conference in Enugu.
“We were talking about the bogus 2.2 million candidates, but it has become clearer that more than 500,000 of such number are fake and duplication.
“And we were able to detect this through NIN and now we have realistic number of JAMB candidates,” the registrar said.
The examinations body boss frowned at the activities of some elements to sabotage the exercise, but they were all caught due to the system put in place.
He added that those students who visited a particular centre but could not write the examination would be rescheduled and new date fixed.
“Apart from registration fee, we did not collect any other money from candidates, but some pay as far as N25,000 to some elements to help them.
“Even some parents were paying N1,000 to somebody who did not finish primary six to help their children, but they will surely pay for it because we will delist them,” he said.
The registrar noted that the security situation in the Southeast was not as media and social media projected it.
The registrar said his team was at the Southeast to access what was going on with the conduct of the examinations as well as to visit new University in Ebonyi.
“I came here myself with four directors and nothing has happened to us.
“I want to commend the media for their criticism and support which made the 2021 UTME successful,” Oloyede said.

NLC Set to Resume Fresh Strike in Kaduna, Says el-Rufai Breached Agreement

Nigeria Labour Congress has said it is set to resume its suspended strike in Kaduna State over the mass sacking of workers and other anti- labour practices by the Governor Nasir El-Rufai administration.

The NLC did not disclose any date for the strike, but it directed its state councils and affiliate unions to mobilise and officially communicate to all employers of labour in the state for the latest action.

The NLC came up with the decision following the emergency National Executive Council meeting presided over by its President, Ayuba Wabba, on Tuesday.

Wabba accused El-Rufai of failing to respect the Memorandum of Understanding brokered between the NLC and the state government by the Federal Government.

He said the governor has continued to violate the provisions of the MoU, especially the “No victimisation clause”.

Addressing reporters at the end of the meeting, Wabba said the congress, after exhausting all avenues, including writing letters to President Muhammadu Buhari and Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, had decided to resume the strike.

He said, “Owing to the above grievous infractions and continued provocation by the Kaduna State Government against workers and trade unions in the state and despite the fact that we have also complained formally to the Federal Government through the President and Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment on the non-adherence to the MoU, NEC has resolved that the earlier decision to withdraw all services and protest this neo-liberal and extreme right-wing policy should take effect without further delay."
