Seun Kuti In Police Custody

Credited: Sylvester Kwentua

Social media users were kept busy early Monday morning, after a picture of Nigeria musician, Seun Kuti flooded their various timelines.

Seun Kuti, who had trended last weekend after he was seen in a video assaulting a police officer on the popular third mainland bridge in Lagos, was pictorially seen in handcuffs, indicating that he was currently a guest of the Nigeria police.

Surprisingly, while monitoring various social media networks, it was revealed that a lot of people seemed not enraged by the picture, as many felt being in the police custody, was actually the right way to go.

@tompounds on Twitter wrote”I actually like Seun, but slapping a police officer in public, is a no. Thank God he is with the police now. He can clear his name if he feels he did nothing wrong.”

@tunde_Osho on Twitter wrote” Nice one! Let him clear his name, if the police actually threatened to kill him, as he claimed.”

@obi Aloze on Facebook wrote “New Nigeria is possible with new behavior. #prosecuteSeunNow for a better Nigeria.”

@queen Ozegbe Obasi on Facebook wrote” I’m beginning to like Nigerian police mode of discipline these days , when their officers do anyhow they punish them and when you do anyhow to the men on uniform because of your popularity , I’m sorry for you. Anyway seun has a smart way of escaping punishment he will tell them that he acted under the influence of eegbo. it’s legal for their family members to smoke eegbo.”

@Olatunde Olalekan on Facebook wrote” Police are bad, but Seun should have listened to his wife and children. It’s criminal beating a man in uniform.

@Segunbones on Instagram wrote “Chai! Seun fuvk up gan ni ooo.”

@Danielokwuta on Instagram wrote “God help you from here, Seun omo Fela”.

Nevertheless, it will be worth knowing that Seun Kuti actually surrendered himself to the Nigeria police, by visiting the commissioner of police, Lagos state, Idowu Owohunwa, in his office.

This visit was a follow up to a tweet over the weekend by Seun’s friend, Omoyele Sowore, a presidential candidate in the last election.

Sowore in his tweet had stated that Seun had agreed to cooperate with the police in their investigations, to find out what really transpired on the third mainland bridge.

It will be recalled that Seun Kuti, who is a son to famous music legend, Fela Kuti, was seen and heard physically and verbally assaulting a police officer on the third mainland bridge in Lagos.

In the video, he was heard yelling “U dey mad” to the officer, while caressing his cheeks with some rounds of slaps.

The video brought out a reaction from the Inspector General of the Nigeria police, Usman Baba, who ordered his arrest.

In a video post on the internet after the assault video went viral, Seun explained that what he did was in self defence, as he claimed the officer threatened to kill him and his family.

Interestingly, in a latest twist to the saga, another video on Monday, started circulating on the internet.

In the video, Seun Kuti was seen boasting to have slapped several police officers in the past.

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo and Group Chairman, Transcorp Plc, Mr. Tony Elumelu; during the commissioning of Transcorp Afam 3 Fast Power 240MW turbines in Afam, Rivers State on Tuesday

9th May 2023 – Afam, Rivers State; The Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday commissioned Transafam Power - a subsidiary of Transnational Corporation Plc’s 240MW Afam Three Fast Power plant in Afam, Rivers State.  With an already existing power plant residing in Afam, this brings the cumulative generating capacity of the plant to 1,000MW.

The Commissioning of Afam Three Fast Power plant came on the heel of the presentation of the Discharge Certificate to Transcorp Power Limited by the Vice President and Chairman of the National Council on privatization (NCP) in a ceremony held at the presidential Villa Abuja on Monday, following the fulfilment of all privatisation conditions set by the Bureau for Public Enterprise (BPE).

l-r: Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo; Group Chairman, Transcorp Plc, Mr. Tony Elumelu; President/GCEO, Transnational Corporation Plc, Dr(Mrs) Owen Omogiafo; and, Director General, Bureau of Public Enterprises(BPE), Alexander Okoh,  during the commissioning of Transcorp Afam 3 Fast Power 240MW turbines in Afam, Rivers State on Tuesday

Speaking during the commissioning, the Vice President lauded the Chairman of Transcorp Group, Tony Elumelu and the entire Transcorp team for yet another power sector investment.

“Afam Three Fast Power is an important part of the evolving story of Nigeria's aspirations to bring electricity to millions in their homes, factories and businesses that provide their livelihoods. It brings into view the importance of private capital in building up capacity along the power value chain.” The Vice President said.

Speaking further, Prof. Osinbajo said: “A major weakness of our privatisation process has been inadequacy of private investments and new cash injections. But the tide is turning with indigenous power and private investors such as Transcorp Power and Heirs Holdings, making significant investments such as the 100% acquisition of the 966MW installed capacity in Afam Plc and Afam III fast power Limited jointly referred to as Afam Genco”

In his remark, The Minister of Power, Engr. Abubakar Aliyu applauded Transcorp Group for its positive contributions to improving electricity generation in Nigeria.

“What we are celebrating today is an exemplar of the best of Public-Private partnerships. This collaboration has ensured that we are commissioning Afam Three Fast Power today, with a capacity to inject an additional 240MW of electricity into the National grid.”

“At full capacity, it will no doubt provide about 40% of our generated energy today. This is commendable and will certainly improve electricity supply to the nation along with growth of our economy and Gross Domestic Product (GDP)”, Engr. Abubakar said.

The Chairman of Transcorp Group, Mr. Tony O. Elumelu, during the ceremony said that “We all know the importance of power in Nigeria.  We all experience the consequences of our power deficit – the implications for our people, our businesses, our schools, hospitals, and institutions – our national destiny. Transcorp Group is a key player in the power sector.  We recognise power is the single most critical factor to lifting our people out of poverty and enabling job creation.

Therefore, I am so proud today, that we have been able to bring together so many key stakeholders. He concluded his speech with the commitment to continue to do well and do good. “We will not rest until we know every Nigerian has access to the power and the fruits of that power, which we know can transform our country.

We are fulfilling our promises to the Government and demonstrating Transcorp’s purpose of “Improving Lives and Transforming Africa”.

The Director General of the Bureau for Public Enterprises, Alex Okoh highlighted the importance of projects such as these in improving access to electricity in Nigeria. He said “Afam Three fast Power combined with the adjoining Afam Power Plc, will in the next few years add almost 1,000MW of electricity to the national grid. This will go a long way towards reducing the current power deficit while enhancing access to electricity for millions of private and corporate Nigerians, creating jobs, and ensuring the socio-economic development and well-being of the nation.”

The successful commissioning of the Afam Three Fast Power turbines is a testament to the Transcorp Group's commitment to providing reliable and sustainable power to Nigerians. The commissioning took place shortly after the second anniversary of Transafam Power's operational takeover of the Afam Power Asset.

Transcorp Group remains at the forefront of driving Nigeria’s economic revitalisation through its power investments in Ughelli, hospitality through Transcorp Hotels and now Transafam.

Transafam Power Limited is one of the power subsidiaries of Transcorp Group and the core investor in Afam Genco, comprising Afam Power Plc and Afam Three Fast Power Limited.  The Afam GenCo Power Plant is located at Okoloma Village, in Oyigbo LGA of Rivers State with a total installed capacity of 966 MW. Human Rights Group Asks DSS To Investigate Ex-Chief Of Air Staff, Sadique

The Human Rights Advocacy Centre has called on the Department of States Services to investigate the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Bauchi State, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (rtd) over alleged link to insecurity in the state.

The rights group in a letter signed by its convener, Comrade Ajibade Moses Adebayo and addressed to the Director-General of the secret police, called for Sadique’s investigation.

The centre said its position was hinged on the APC guber candidate’s “blatant and arrogant display of power and affluence with known supporters of his oppressing and coercing citizens into submission to his whims and caprices”.

It alleged that the former Chief of Air Staff has equipped a militia group to oppress dissenting voices opposed to him.

The centre, therefore, charged the DSS to investigate the former CAS to ascertain his complicity and culpability in the recent surge in insecurity in Bauchi.

“We fear that if the situation is allowed to fester, Bauchi might erupt in violence and become the new operational headquarters for terrorist groups,” the centre added.

“It is our prayer that in the event that Abubakar is found guilty, he should be made to face the full wrath of the law. Bauchi is bleeding at the moment”.

He Is The Lion Of Bourdillon.....Babajide Otitoju

There has been mix-reactions ever since the Vice President, Yemi Osibajo declared his Presidential ambition. This has been a serious arguement between the Ex Lagos State Governor, Ahmed Tinubu and Yemi Osibajoissue and has stylishly metamorphosed  into a big controversy.

Amidst all reactions from Nigerians and journalists I found the reaction from Babajide Otitoju interesting which I decide to share here

Babajide Kolade-otitoju  writes:

On this Jagaban issue, every 4 years people come on social media to yell and castigate the man over his political decisions. There are over 18m people in Lagos, over 1000 politicians yet they cannot unseat him. Is this his fault? Are you expecting him to raise his legs and say "hi guys come and screw me over"?

He left the AD, formed the AC then ACN, Afenifere, Obasanjo could not unseat him. He lost two deputy governors, Kofo Bucknor, and Femi Pedro to the opposition party, Lost Obanikoro, a man he single-handedly made a senator to PDP, he lost Jimi Agbaje a close ally also to the PDP.

They tried to unseat him, they failed. Obasanjo and GEJ tried, they didn't succeed. Lagos State had the Minister for Works, Ogunlewe, PDP BOT chairman - Bode George, Minister for Defence - Obanikoro, Olusegun Aganga - Trade and Investment but while these notable men go to bed at night, Jagaban stays awake scheming and planning his next move at Bourdillon, rallying the grassroots and then he comes with either the stick or the carrot. Obanikoro his sworn enemy is back, Pedro is back, Salvador former PDP chairman is back to his camp.

He did not put a gun to anybody's head to wine and dine with him. Why can't they form an alliance to finish him off? We have a choice not to associate with him, don't we?

He has successfully built a battalion of loyalists from 1999 till date. From Fashola to the councilor in the smallest ward in Lagos. Fashola, Osinbajo, Fowler, Lai Mohammed, Ben Akabueze, Ojudu, Ade Ipaye, Rauf, Hamzat, GOS, Gbajabiamila, Faleke, Yayi, Ashafa, Opeifa, Tunji Bello, Leke plan, Jide Idris, Dele Alake, Mamora and a whole lot of other young brilliant minds. For every one person he empowered, he got thousands more in return. He identifies the best and uses them to his advantage.

Can Bode George or Ogunlewe roll out a list comparable to Tinubu's list? Why haven't they been able to create a formidable opposition to kick him out? They had the federal might for 16 years to their advantage.

To be honest, is he at fault? What do we expect him to do? Crawl under his duvet at Bourdillon or watch African Magic? Why can't other politicians form a consensus?

He is the Lion of Bourdillon and when he roars, his lionesses and cubs will respond. Unless a stronger pride emerges, he will continue to rule this jungle. It is the law of nature, sentiments don't matter.  He is already scheming for 2023, 4 years ahead of these docile politicians.

Meanwhile, there is still room to challenge him, please go ahead and vote against his Aspiration if you feel aggrieved...
