Lagos State Requested Over N18M Tax From Iyabo Ojo

Nollywood actress and entrepreneur, Iyabo Ojo has reacted to the Lagos State Government and the governor of the state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu over an alleged ₦18 million tax request.

Iyabo, in an Instagram post on Monday, shared documents of a personal income tax letter and expressed her frustration with the exorbitant amount demanded by the government.

The actress directed her anger to Sanwo-Olu and the Lagos State government, demanding an explanation for the hefty tax bill.

She questioned the basis for such high personal income taxes and criticized the lack of transparency in the calculation process.

The actress referred to a previous encounter where she complied with the government’s request to explain her earnings and declare her income but received no response.

She stated, “Last time, you people asked me to come to your office, I came, you asked me to explain & declare what I earn, which I did with my tax consultant, but noooooooooooooo you did not respond to my letter, because you want me to pay you an outrageous amount that I do not have.

Feeling overwhelmed by the mounting financial burden imposed on her, the mother of two raised concerns about the government’s insensitivity to the challenges faced by individuals and businesses.

She questioned the contributions of the government to her life, stating, “What have you people ever done for me as a government? NOTHING!!! I have single-handedly raised my kids & so many others, plus myself without a single penny from the government.”

This incident is not the first time Ojo has publicly voiced her grievances regarding taxation in Lagos State.

In 2019, she shared tax papers on Instagram, lamenting the excessive taxation that was jeopardising her business.

She expressed her struggle to make a profit amid various financial obligations, including rent, salaries, maintenance, and multiple taxes imposed by the local and state governments.

As of now, there has been no official response from Governor Sanwo-Olu or the Lagos State government regarding Ojo’s allegations and demands for an explanation.

The actress remains resolute in her stance, prepared to face any consequences that may arise from speaking out.

Toke Makinwa Finds Out That Her Ex-Husband Impregnated His Girl Friend

Popular media personality Toke Makinwa has explained how devastated she was when she found out that her ex-husband Maje Ayida impregnated his ex-girlfriend.

The chatterbox TV personality who opened up in a recent episode of her YouTube vlog series, Toke Moments, said that everything that was familiar to her at that time failed.

Toke, who disclosed that she was so devastated when she found out that her husband had impregnated his ex-girlfriend said that her job was the only thing she was sure of in her life.

“I think that my job was the only thing that I was sure of in my life. Every other thing that was familiar has failed. The world that I had built had crumbled. And the only thing I was sure of was my job,” Makinwa revealed.

She also added that her boss at Rhythm FM was also concerned about her emotional well-being because everybody was talking about what her ex-husband Maje did to her.

“Everyone is talking about you; I don’t want to get into it, but people are thinking you would literally fall apart. I think you need to go home,” her boss said at the time.

However, Toke said that she decided to weather the storm in her bid to deliver to the audience despite the emotional turmoil she was going through at the time.

I learned earlier to leave my feelings at the door and then pick them up when I am on my way home. So, once you walk into the studio, it’s not about you. It’s about the millions of people who are trying to make their ways work; they are the ones who are tuning in expecting to get entertained, informed, and on top of what is going on in the world,” Toke said.

They are said to be concerned about recovering money to pay for the loans with which they purchased the tickets.

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), National Vice President, Alhaji Abubakar Maigandi told The Nation these on the phone.

NNPCL Chief Communication Officer, Malam Garba Deen Muhammad, who was asked to respond to the allegation, did not respond to calls by The Nation.

He also failed to reply the text message that The Nation sent to him.

Asked about the new ex-depot price, Maigandi said: “The price has started coming out. Some depots have started releasing the price. “They are selling at the rate of N479.50. That is the ex-depot price.”

Lamenting over NNPC’s application of new prices for old tickets, he said, “You know the banks are charging you based on the money they lent to you.

Again, we, the Independent petroleum marketers have already purchased the product from NNPC since getting to eight months. Now they are saying they will give us the product for this new rate and not the old rate we paid at.

And it is with our money they (NNPCL) bought this product. These are part of the challenges we are encountering now.”

Ogun Govt Orders Investigation Into Killing Of TASUED Student

The Ogun State Government has reacted to the killing of a 300-level student of the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in Ijagun, ordering an investigation into the incident.

It was reported that the government’s reaction is coming barely one week after the management of the university had ordered the closure of the school for peace to reign.

Our correspondent reported earlier that the male TASUED student was reportedly murdered by those students suspected to be security guards from Imaweje, a neighbouring community to the university.

Angered by the death of their colleague, some of the aggrieved students set the house of the Baale and three other houses on fire.

In a statement on Sunday, the Ogun government assured students of TASUED that those responsible for the killing of their colleague will not go unpunished.

According to the statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Waheed Adesina, the state government condemned the dastardly act, while disclosing that the police have been instructed to invite all concerned, including the Baale of Imaweje, to unravel the immediate and remote causes of the student’s death.

The state government strongly condemned the killing of the student, saying it was one death too many. No one has the right to take the law into their own hands, and every action necessary would be taken to punish all those involved,” it was said.

Meanwhile, the government appealed to the students to remain peaceful and law abiding, while waiting for the outcome of the police investigation.

It assured that “such incidents will not be allowed to happen again anywhere in the state.”

Chioma Initially Turned Me Down......Davido

Award-winning Nigerian singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has recounted how his wife, Chioma Rowland, initially turned down his romantic advances towards her.

In a chat with vlogger Tayo Aina, Davido said he first met Chioma while they were both studying at Babcock University in Ogun State.

He said it was love at first sight, adding that immediately he set his eyes on her, he asked one of his aides to call her for him but Chioma declined.

He said, “I was in a Prado, and I looked behind and I saw this girl walking. Just there with her bag, it was Chioma.

“I told Lati omo, I like that girl, go and call that girl for me. He called her but she did not answer me at the time.”

The 30 Billion Gang head honcho, however, said Chioma later came to Lagos and they linked up.

The couple got married shortly after the death of their son, Ifeanyi who drowned in a swimming pool at the singer’s Banana Island mansion last year.

I Cannot Marry Mommy's Boy...Angela Eguavoen

An actress, Angela Eguavoen, has said she cannot marry a man who is tied to the apron strings of his mother.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, she said, “I cannot marry a mummy’s boy. He has to be a man of himself. Of course, I want a man that has someone in his family that he respects and listens to. He has to be someone who keeps to his words, and cannot be easily swayed.”

Eguavoen added that she would not allow any relatives in her home. “No family member will live with me and my husband unless she (mother-in-law) is sick and is in need of attention. I am a busy woman and not the type that would sit at home to take care of anybody. I am of the opinion that in-laws living permanently with a newly-wed couple is not good,” she said.

Commenting on actresses who complain about fake friendships in the industry, she said, “I don’t know about them. I do not keep many friends. I have just a few of them and they have all been true to me. I believe friendship should not be a one-sided thing. If we (friends) are benefiting from each other, the person won’t think I am using them.

“But, one way or the other, one person will outdo the other at some point. However, that one person is doing better than the other does not mean they cannot do better later.”
