Abuja Airport Faces Tightened Scrutiny, GAT Shutdown tTo Curb Illicit Activities

The Nigerian Federal Government is poised to make a significant decision regarding the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. Reports have surfaced indicating that the VIP section of the terminal may be linked to various illicit activities, including money laundering, drug trafficking, and human trafficking. Serving primarily private jet owners and charter services, the GAT is now under scrutiny.

In a related development, there are allegations against an undisclosed foreign airline for its role in facilitating drug trafficking operations. Moreover, Nigeria is reportedly on track to lose approximately ₦120 billion due to unauthorized charter services operating within the country.

These revelations could lead authorities to implement stringent measures, potentially resulting in the closure of the GAT to effectively combat these illegal activities and regulate private jet operations. While no official decision has yet been made regarding the terminal’s fate, the government is actively evaluating the situation, indicating that significant changes may be on the horizon to ensure the integrity and security of airport operations.
