The United States has recently made updates to its visa waiver program, resulting in the exclusion of several countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, and notably, the United Kingdom.
The visa waiver program allows eligible citizens from participating countries to enter the U.S. for tourism or business purposes without requiring a visa for stays of up to 90 days. Instead of the traditional visa application process, individuals from these countries can obtain an Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) prior to their travel.
The updated list now includes 40 countries, with Romania being the latest addition. Other countries benefiting from the visa waiver program include Australia, Austria, Belgium, Chile, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and Taiwan.
It is important to note that Nigeria, Ghana, and South Africa have been excluded from this program, while the United Kingdom remains on the list but has certain specific conditions for its citizens. The U.S. Department of State has emphasized that these updates are designed to enhance security measures and prioritize countries that have established strong diplomatic relations and border security protocols.
